Your headshot is your first impression on your online dating profile and maybe the most important part of getting a closer look at the rest of your profile. If you were to list your home for sale, you would want a great "curb appeal" to draw potential buyers for a better look inside. A stunning headshot gives your profile curbing the appeal it needs to magnetize your new love!
The most important thing is to have your profile pics accurate and up to date. Remember that you will meet in person with potential partners so keep it real and always have fun!
Professional Shooting Photo? YES!-YES! Ideally, you should have a professional photo shoot done with a photographer who is skilled in taking outdoor, not in a studio, natural looking photos. Look not too scripted, all natural and genuine.
If a professional photo shoot is not in the cards for you, ask a good friend or family member to play photographer, or do it yourself following the selfie tips below.
Profile Photo Tips
Choose a location well illuminated with natural light. Indoor lighting can sometimes make you look orange in the pictures and the florescent lighting is just awful. Sunlight is the best, but not directly in your face (it can result in squinting and shadows). Diffused sunlight works fine indoors. Stand near a window and take a few pictures before you continue your "photo shoot" to check the lighting Outside is fine especially if you select a slightly cloudy or overcast day, or shoot in the last hour of sunlight to catch what photographers call the "golden hour" for a lighter, more sparkling effect.
If you are outside, choose a solid, non-distracting backdrop such as a plain wall, or a leafy bush or tree. When you take your headshot in front of an indoor wall make sure it's not a pure white wall, because that can make your pic look like a mug shot. Stand a few feet from the wall, so as not to create undesirable shadows. Make sure you and background are in contrast.
Wear solid colors to keep you focused and not your shoes. If you're not sure what your favorite colors are, pick those that will always get compliments when you're wearing them.
SMILE. It's a real, natural smile that attracts and encourages others. Do not worry about the feet or wrinkles of the crow, let your light shine through your eyes and your soul express itself.
Slightly angle yourself to avoid adding the illusion of extra pounds to the camera. If photos tend to make you look thinner than you are, stand in front of the camera straight away.
Always take a bunch of photos with different poses so you can choose the best one.
Most of your supplementary photos should be from YOU. But once you have several of you, you can add some of the places you live (like a great sunset at the beach or a beautiful view of the mountains, anything but your house, keep it private), your artwork, your pets, your photography of nature... you want to give somebody a glimpse of your life without revealing too much.
Make sure at least one full length photo is included. Get a friend (or better yet, a professional photographer) to take it. Don't worry your body aren't perfect. Love your body as it is, and know all forms and sizes of chemistry come in. AND, confidence has been proven to be more attractive than actual looks, so relax and have fun with it.
Show yourself doing something that you love, such as painting, playing sports, working out, sailing, diving, meditating, riding horseback, playing an instrument, shooting pool ... all well.
Show some diversity. On all the additional images I have seen some profiles with basically the same headshot. It makes me wonder if they have any personality whatsoever. We all have different looks and different moods; grab some of yours. More headshot with various expressions is all right, as long as you have at least one full-length image.
Pictures on Goofy are more than welcome. Fun is sexy and alluring!
Costumes fantastic! If you've got some pictures of Halloween just you, they'll give members a glimpse of your creative side, and they're fun to look at!
It's OK to cropp friends out. If it's a really good shot of you, go ahead and crop the other person or people out for your additional photos, just don't do that in your main headshot. Make sure you write a note about what you see in the picture. For example, "with friends at a dinner party (friends cropped up for their privacy).
Keep it light in general, and have some enjoyable. Stress isn't fun, but think of it as an adventure and a significant step towards finding your future sweetheart. AND ... Please put your profile with a great headshot and additional photos, as they will give you a huge advantage!
